THE WIZARDRY OF WELLINGTON - a new children's book and an art competition

Launching a children's novel at an art gallery is a no-brainer when your parents own the art gallery, but it made author Alicia Ponder think about a 'novel' way to get children in the door. She decided on an art competition for children and adults - theme? THE MAGIC OF WELLINGTON -- and her book? Wizards Guide to Wellington - a rollicking and magical read for 8-12 year olds set in her home town of Wellington.

The competition has two divisions -- Junior: 12 and under, and under 18; and Senior. There are cash prizes and the work will be exhibited at Rona Gallery which is in the seaside town of Eastbourne -- and which houses a wonderful collection of adult and children's books as well as an art gallery. More information and an entry form on http://www.art-gallery-newzealand.com/

Wizards Guide to Wellington will be officially launched and the Magic of Wellington competition prizes presented on Thursday February 14 at 6.30 pm at Rona Gallery 151 Muritai Rd, Eastbourne.  Meanwhile, copies of Wizards Guide are already flying out of bookshops around Wellington. Wherever you're from if you're young and like magic and adventure, you'll enjoy this book.

'Wizards and a taniwha running wild in Wellington - who would have thought it? Perrin's adventures in the capital city are fun to follow and full of surprises. My (unpointy) hat is off to Alicia Ponder. Now where's my broom ...?'  Fiona Kidman
