Pulps Live in Otago

From Dr. Donald Kerr, F.L.S. , Special Collections Librarian,University of Otago
Special Collections, University of Otago Library, is pleased to announce the on-line presentation of our current exhibition: Pulp Fiction. The physical version of this exhibition runs to 10 December 2010. Please enjoy this e-version.

There is much work involved in putting such e-exhibitions up. For their invaluable assistance in this, I thank Elliot O’Sullivan (Web Office), Merrin Brewster (Web, Library), and Tina Broderick (Library). Full acknowledgements to others are given in the site. And as usual, I welcome feedback and comments. We can always improve.

Here is the link, which I hope will work:

In addition, our next exhibition is entitled ‘Faces of Authorship: Constructing the Author in Medieval and Early Modern Books’.

This starts on 17 December 2010 and runs through to coincide with the Eighth Biennial International Conference of the Australian and New Zealand Association for Medieval and Early Modern Studies, 2-5 February 2011 at the University of Otago.

The ‘Authorship’ exhibition is curated by Dr Simone Celine Marshall, English Department, University of Otago. The time-period covered by Faces of Authorship is Medieval to Early Modern, with books on display ranging from medieval manuscripts, printed texts from the hand-press era, and where necessary, modern-day editions and costly facsimiles.
Each item on display calls into question the definition of authorship and reveals that textual production in this period was a more fluid concept than one might imagine.
The works certainly support the notion that authorship in all its varieties is an evolving and continually changing idea. I am sure Simone would welcome further queries on this.

  1. The Pulp Fiction exhibition is fantastic - love those book covers, and the outrageous stories that go with them! If you're in Dunedin, make sure you get to it.
