Frances Hodgkins Fellow showcases new works at the Hocken

Artist Miranda Parkes will present a new body of work at the Hocken Library showcasing her tenure as the 2016 Frances Hodgkins Fellow.

In this exhibition, ‘the merrier’, she combines painting, video, collage and installation with ideas relating to poetry and painterly abstraction, linked with themes of family, gender and motherhood.

A publication designed by Daniel Alexander Blackball will accompany the exhibition with texts by Sharon Dell, Robyn Notman, Andrea Bell, Sophie Bannan and Miranda Parkes, studio photography and working drawings. The publication will be available for purchase from the Hocken and selected stockists.

‘Miranda Parkes: the merrier’ will be showing at Hocken Collections 90 Anzac Ave, Dunedin, from   21 July to 28 October.
The Exhibition will be open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm.

 

Artist Biography
Miranda Parkes has a diverse artistic practice that encompasses painting, installation, video and art in public space. She has exhibited throughout New Zealand and overseas. Her works are held in public and private collections in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and America. In 2016 she was the Frances Hodgkins Fellow and she has been awarded numerous prestigious scholarships, prizes and residencies. Parkes completed a Master of Fine Arts degree (Distinction) in Painting at the University of Canterbury in 2005.
