The celebrated digital magazine e-Tangata is home to some of the most incisive and profound commentary on life in New Zealand. The best of these have been collected together into a new BWB Text by the magazine’s editors, Tapu Misa and Gary Wilson.
The collection encompasses Māori, Pasifika and Pākehā writers from around New Zealand. Read as a single volume, it provides an engaging and deeply personal reflection on New Zealand society.
In The Best of e-Tangata, authors and interviewees grapple with politics, social issues, history and popular culture. For example:
- Lawyer
and former Manu Samoa player Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu, for example,
describes the colonial version of New Zealand and Pacific history taught
to him at school in Auckland.
- Dale
Husband interviews Naida Glavish. In the 1980s, Glavish was threatened
with dismissal from her job as a Post Office tolls operator for greeting
callers with ‘kia ora’.
- In
‘Maybe the Urewera owns itself’, Wena Harawira interviews former New
Zealand Prime Minister Jim Bolger about the Treaty of Waitangi and Māori
development.
- Lawyer
Moana Jackson writes about the remembering and commemoration of New
Zealand’s nineteenth-century wars.
