Selamat datang kembali, literature lovers.
Since unveiling our theme, Origins,
and artwork
for the 14th Ubud
Writers & Readers Festival, we've been overwhelmed
by your excitement and aspirations for the return of Southeast
Asia's biggest celebration of extraordinary stories and brave
ideas.
In the meantime we'll be keeping busy as our UWRF17 lineup grows,
and we prepare for the world's leading writers, artists,
thinkers and performers to descend on one of the world's most
magical destinations.
Joining the program alongside our UWRF17 speakers will be the
winners of our Indonesian
Emerging Writers Prize. Each year we put the call out
across the archipelago for aspiring authors to submit their novels,
essays, poems and plays.
This year, we received a record
913 submissions spanning local writers not just living
in Indonesia, but also based in France, Australia, Hong Kong, the
US, Egypt and Morocco. The submissions are now being reviewed by an
independent curatorial team, who will select 16 entries to be
published in our annual Bilingual Anthology and launched at the
Festival.
If you'd like to immerse yourself in the landscape of emerging
Indonesian literature in the meantime, we're releasing chapters
from last year's Anthology on our website each
week.
Lastly, if you are an emerging writer, be sure to submit
your entry to our Emerging Writers Prize with AAWP, for
the chance to win a trip to this year's Festival. We
chatted with last year's winner, Annabel Wilson, to get
the lowdown on her experience.
