Bonnie Etherington was born in Napier but spent most of her childhood in West Papua & her experiences there have inspired this exciting debut novel. The personal story of a New Zealand family dealing with grief, & the  complexities of living in a vibrant but very different culture, is underpinned by the political story of Indonesian imperialism in the region.
Bonnie was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize in 2016.
