Storylines 2016 writers’ awards – deadline reminder

 

The deadline for Storylines’ three awards for new manuscripts is approaching.  Manuscripts for the Storylines Joy Cowley Award, the Storylines Tessa Duder Award and the Storylines Tom Fitzgibbon Award must be postmarked not later than 31 October 2016. For eligibility and other information, go to the Awards pages on our website.

Storylines Award for new illustrators

Another deadline reminder – this time for aspiring illustrators: the deadline for the Storylines Gavin Bishop Award for new illustrators is 30 November 2016. Please note the new requirements for submitting entries. Read details on eligibility, plus entry forms and guidelines here.

Storylines Festival

Writing workshops, an Insult Joust with Donovan Bixley, read-aloud stories, live performances of favourite New Zealand books - and a birthday celebration for Joy Cowley are all  part of the programme on this year's festival.
Programmes are being finalised and regional co-ordinators are excited about what children and their whanau can enjoy at each of the Storylines Family Days. Read more on the links below:

Story Tour

Illustrators, authors and storytellers descend on schools and the Vodafone Events Centre as part of the 2016 Storylines Festival StoryTour. Kids in classrooms around Auckland and Northland get the opportunity to meet their local literary heroes, and ask them about how they create the magic in their stories and illustrations. Volunteer at Storylines Festival

As the Festival approaches, the workload ramps up  and our hardworking co-ordinators around the country welcome any offers of help. You can support the Festival in advance by taking on some of the essential preparatory/promotional tasks - or you can have enormous fun volunteering on the day. IBBY Congress:standard rates for Storylines members extended

The IBBY International Congress is your opportunity to meet and hear some outstanding speakers. Storylines members can register at standard rates until 15 July. Read details here.

IBBY Congress programme updates

Roger Mello from Brazil (2014 Hans Christian Andersen winner for illustration), and Zak Waipara, illustrator for New Zealand’s International Book Day poster in 2008, are on a panel of international illustrators. The Congress closing ceremony includes a choral farewell written especially for the IBBY Congress, sung by Auckland school choirs and narrated by Joy Cowley.Check the website for detailed updates on the programme.

Volunteer at IBBY Congress

Would you like to be a volunteer at the IBBY Congress 18-21 August, at the Aotea Centre, Auckland? Volunteers will be able to attend sessions in the ASB auditorium when not on duty. Send your name and days you are available, either before or during the Congress to Helen Schwarcz (h.schwarcz@auckland.ac.nz).
