UD Writers & Readers Festival 26-30 October 2016

A festival that celebrates writing is a festival that celebrates dangerous ideas, the human condition and the potency of story.

This year, we've chosen the theme Tat Tvam Asi or ‘I am you, you are me.’ A Hindu philosophy, Tat Tvam Asi evokes the idea that we are all 'one', and originally spoke of the relationship between the self and the supreme reality.

With this in our minds, the program is coming together, and we're looking forward to exploring ideas such as the power of story in creating empathy, our responsibilities to the earth and each other, and the intersection, crossroads and connection of life online.

As part of creating the program, we've been reminded of Anne Lamott's instructions in her wonderful 'Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life'. Lamott writes: "What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet or excite you. Books help us understand who we are and how we are to behave. They show us what community and friendship mean; they show us how to live and die.”

Each year, the UWRF relies on the support of our generous audiences, who keep coming back to Ubud to take part in what we think is the world's most magical literary event. If you have a moment, head over to our Facebook page and
comment on the pinned post, letting us know what you've loved about UWRF festivals past, and what you'd love to see this year at the UWRF 2016?

It's not long now until we'll release our first-release line-up, and our Early Bird tickets, so be sure to stay tuned to our social media – find us on
Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Until next time,
