Knopf Celebrates 25 Years of
Faith Ringgold's 'Tar Beach'


Inspired by her painted story quilt of the same name, Faith Ringgold's debut children's book, Tar Beach, was published by Crown in 1991, and went on to won the Coretta Scott King Award for illustration and a Caldecott Honor. Knopf has just released a 25th-anniversary edition of the book, as well as a new picture book by Ringgold, We Came to America, a celebration of this country's multicultural heritage. more

Footnote: I remember to this day the huge impression this stunning book made on all those years ago.
