Thanks Mum: A Kiwi Celebration
Touching messages to NZ mums
hits shelves this week
Press Release:
While there are hundreds of
inspirational mother figures in literature, there are many more amazing mums
out there in the real world. This Mother’s Day, Penguin Random House NZ wants
to celebrate them – in the best way we know, through a book. And not just any
book, a Penguin Classic – something many of us have grown up with.
Penguin Random House has been
supporting mums around the world for more than 80 years, from pregnancy advice
and bedtime stories, to homework help and ‘mum time’ escapism. To further
recognise the importance of mothers in all our lives we decided to do something
unique, publish a collection of dedications from real people in the iconic
Penguin Classics format. Over 10,500 copies will hit bookstores from this
Wednesday, 20th April.
In early January, Penguin Random
House put out the call to New Zealanders everywhere to send in a message to
their mum which would be published in a very special book. Messages flooded in
from people all over the country, from ages 8 to 80, keen to show their love
and appreciation for everything their mum has done for them.
The result is Thanks Mum, a
tribute to New Zealand mums. Thanks Mum is a heartfelt collection of letters,
memories, poems and tributes written by everyday people. It is an anthology of
motherhood, spanning love, life, laughter and loss; an uplifting account told
through the eyes of children – young and old. It celebrates the good, the bad
and the plain embarrassing. From unconditional love, quirky habits and annoying
sayings – to friendship, hardship, laughter and loss. And for those people who
don’t have a message included there is a blank page so that they can write
their mum their own very special message.
Thanks Mum is available as a
gift with purchase on selected Penguin Random House titles.
