2016 JQ-Wingate Shortlist Announced
“We have been moved, amused, gripped, provoked, absorbed and awestruck” said chair of judges, Samantha Ellis, on the task of coming up with the 2016 JQ-Wingate Literary Prize shortlist:
Ishmael’s Oranges by Claire Hajaj
J by Howard Jacobson
The Life of Saul Bellow by Zachary Leader
Between Gods by Alison Pick
The Impossible Exile by George Prochnik
The Liberation of the Camps by Dan Stone
KL: A History of the Nazi Concentration Camps by Nikolaus Wachsmann
The shortlist was announced during Jewish Book Week by JQ editor Nicola Christie, who was joined by judges Times columnist Hugo Rifkind, Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg and novelists Tahmima Amam and Samantha Ellis.
The JQ-Wingate Prize is the only literary prize of its kind in the UK, recognising books with Jewish content for the general reader. The winner is awarded £4,000. The 2016 winner will be announced at London’s Marlborough Gallery on March 14th.
