John Hall-Jones

Pre-eminent southern historian John Hall-Jones has died, aged 88.
The great-grandson of Invercargill's original surveyor John Turnbull Thomson, and son of historian Fred Hall-Jones, had every justification to title his autobiography, published just months ago, A Life of Adventures.

He retired at 60 as an ear nose and throat specialist based in Invercargill and became a historian whose intrepid ways earned him the nickname "Indiana".
