DAN CARTER: MY STORY

DAN CARTER: MY STORY
Published by Upstart Press :: 14 November 2015 :: $49.99 RRP

Dan Carter : My Story, the most eagerly awaited sports biography in years, will be published just days after the conclusion of the Rugby World Cup. Early indications from the New Zealand book trade are that the book will be a Christmas blockbuster.

To make the book as up-to-date as possible and allow for the required fast turnaround, Upstart Press has shunned the traditional Asian printers and instead engaged Wellington firm Printlink to produce the book. Printlink General Manager Peter Ward said his company was extremely proud and privileged to be chosen to print such an important New Zealand book. ‘While I can’t divulge actual numbers, I can say from my experience in the industry that this book represents one of the biggest first print runs ever undertaken in this country,’ said Ward.

Dan Carter : My Story  is an up close and personal account of a New Zealand sporting icon; a down home country boy who went on to become a world superstar. Daniel Carter is acknowledged by most as the greatest first-five to have played international rugby. A veteran of more than 100 test matches, he is the world record holder for most test points, has twice been named International Player of the Year and twice named New Zealand Player of the Year.

In the book the great All Black pivot opens up for the first time about his stellar 13-year career. He looks back on the myriad highs, including that virtuoso performance for the All Blacks against the Lions in the second test of the 2005 series. And, with an equal measure of honesty, he reflects on the lows of his career, speaking frankly of the mental anguish he felt after twice being invalided out of Rugby World Cups.

Auckland writer Duncan Greive has collaborated with Carter on the book. Greive is a multiple award-winning journalist and critic based in Auckland. He has written about music, sport, business and culture for over ten years.
