Fearne Cotton to publish first cookbook with Orion Radio and television presenter Fearne Cotton is to write her first cookbook for Orion. Cook Happy, Cook Healthy will be a clean eating cookbook, “full of simple, fast and healthy recipes”. “With an eye to food bills and time-poor households, the ingredients are all easy to buy, and few in number, and the methods very simple,” said Orion. Orion's deputy publisher of non-fiction, Amanda Harris, bought world rights to the book from Rowan Lawton at Furniss Lawton.

Waterstones opens new Glasgow store Waterstones has opened a new 2,050 sq ft store in Glasgow. The bookselling chain opened a new branch on Byres Road in the West End of the city, covering two floors and stocking over 12,000 books, as well as housing a café.  The bookshop boasts the largest children’s department in the city's West End and also stocks art and cookbooks, history and fiction and an extensive selection of graphic novels and manga titles. It will be managed by Xavier Jones.

Anam and Padel on Man Booker International Prize judging panel Novelist Tahmima Anam and poet and author Ruth Padel are among the judges for the 2016 Man Booker International Prize. This will be the first panel for the newly configured award, which joined forces with the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize earlier this year.

Scotland pilots automatic child library membership Pilot projects are to be developed in every council area in Scotland to enrol children automatically as library members. According to a BBC report, the initiative, backed by £80,000 of funding, will be promoted by Scotland's first minister Nicola Stugeon at Glasgow's Mitchell Library later today (25th August). The pilot schemes will give children library cards either at birth, or at the age of three or four, or in the school entry class Primary 1.

Japanese chain buys up 90% of Murakami essay stock Japanese bookshop chain Kinokuniya is buying up 90,000 of the first 100,000 copies printed of Haruki Murakami’s “Novelist as a Vocation” to force people to buy the essay from a bricks-and-mortar store, it has been reported. Kinokuniya is one of the largest bookstore chains in Japan, with more than 80 stores and 35 sales offices worldwide. A spokesperson for the retailer said: “The reality of the industry today is that it is becoming increasingly difficult for brick-and-mortar bookstores to purchase copies of high-profile new books.

Lawsuit against Author Solutions discontinued A lawsuit against Author Solutions has been discontinued after plaintiffs reached a settlement with the company, it has been reported. The lawsuit was filed in April 2013 by New York-based law firm Giskan Solotaroff Anderson & Stewart, accusing Author Solutions of seeking to make money from authors, rather than for authors.

Scribd introduces new audiobook credit system E-book subscription service Scribd is introducing a new credit-based business model for its audiobooks, which means that from 20th September only a certain number of audiobooks will have unlimited availability.

Peppa Pig to appear at Bath Children's Festival Peppa Pig will be making an appearance at the Bath Children’s Literature Festival this autumn, thanks to a joint initiative from licence holder Entertainment One and master publisher Ladybird Books. At the festival, which will take place 25th September-4th October, events will include costume character meet and greets and a read-aloud from The Big Tale of Little Peppa, published by Ladybird in 2014.
