Sunday is also author Lynley Dodd's birthday. Dodd's beloved children's books about Hairy Maclary the dog have sold millions of copies around the world, since first being published in 1983.
In 1997, there was a Euan Frizzell-animated series following Hairy on his Kiwi neighbourhood forays. This is Hairy's first adventure, introducing his mates - Schnitzel von Krumm, Bottomley Potts and Muffin McClay - and his tomcat tormenter Scarface Claw. Actress Miranda Harcourt narrates, nicely capturing the rhythms of Dodd's famous prose.
