Bookshop Competition

Dear booklovers - As winter strikes, BWB is once again running a special competition to celebrate New Zealand’s wonderful bookshops!

As readers, authors, publishers, we all need and love them. The BWB midwinter competition is our way of celebrating booksellers, reading and writing.
Write some words about your favourite bookshop – why you like them, what you find there. Simply email competitions@bwb.co.nz with:
  • Bookshop name and place
  • A sentence saying what you value about your local bookshop
For the winners:
The writer of the ‘best bookshop words’ receives a selection of eight BWB Texts (winner’s choice), and a charming BWB Texts bookshelf!
The bookshop earning the best entry wins a BWB Midwinter Hamper! The hamper includes heart-warming treats for bookshop people: a fabulous fruitcake baked by Anon (one of BWB’s many good friends) and local treats chosen by Tangata Whenua authors Atholl Anderson (Jules Taylor wine from Marlborough) and Aroha Harris (fiery chilli sauce from Kaitaia Fire, and delicious mānuka honey from Tai Tokerau Honey).
Entries close end of day on  Friday 31 July. The winning entry will be chosen by two BWB Friends.
Our last year’s winner was McLeods Booksellers, Rotorua, nominated by Shelly Fitness, who wrote:
Buying books at McLeods is like sampling fine wine – they know exactly what to recommend to suit your palette, they are able to talk knowledgeably about a book’s flavours, hues and undertones, they don’t mind you sampling a chapter or two in the shop and they understand that books, like wine, can be special and magical things.
Shelly’s words represented exactly what is special about bookshops – specialist knowledge, a welcoming environment and an inherent love of books and reading.
So do spread the word! Share on Facebook, twitter… and good old-fashioned conversation…
With good wishes from the BWB team,
Bridget Williams Books
