The world is divided into those who love Swallows and Amazons and those who have no discernment whatsoever. Our kids and now our grandkids have loved the books. Now Lucie - 14 - is about to go camping with friends on to a little island off Auckland and she said 'Just like Swallows and Amazons.' What a good girl. Enjoy your reread - what you'll find is that they're so well-written - very non-sexist - fast moving, yet slow when necessary, and essentially kind and decent.
