We Love This Book

10 QUESTIONS: HELEN MACDONALD
H is for Hawk is Macdonald's account of her struggle with her grief at her father's death while she was training to become a falconer. She answers our 10 questions about her work.
Where did the title come from? I fretted about it for months because none of the titles I came up with worked. Then one morning H is for Hawk dropped into my head as I was kneeling on the carpet trying to fix a broken wifi router. And that was it. It felt perfect because this is a book about an education, about how I learned how to live in an unfamiliar world after my father’s death. H is for hawk, and for Helen, and for human, for heart and hope and home.

THE GOOD GIRL
by Mary Kubica
A crime thriller set against a backdrop of family intrigue and illicit romance, The Good Girl is fast-paced with a staggering finale.
Readers will most certainly be struck by the similarities with 2012 phenomenon Gone Girl. Mia Dennett, a young art teacher from a privileged background, meets Colin Thatcher, a dark and mysterious stranger in a bar. What seems to be a harmless one-night stand rapidly develops into a kidnapping plot and a possible threat to her life. When Mia is eventually found, she seems to think her name is Chloe, and has no recollection of her captivity. Constant new developments hook the audience deeper into the plot, making for a gripping, engaging read that is sure to be devoured. As a debut, this is a stunning, well-written novel – Kubica is an author to watch.
