Documentary screening on cult life leads to skyrocket in demand for NZ author's books

After the recent screening of documentary Gloriavale on TVNZ (http://tvnz.co.nz/gloriavale-a-world-apart/6012087), there has been a flurry of online chatter about bestselling New Zealand author Fleur Beale’s novels, several of which feature life in a cult very similar to the one depicted in the documentary.

Indeed, e-book sales of Fleur Beale’s non-fiction book on cult life Sins of the Father: The Long Shadow of a Religious Cult have skyrocketed since the screening, with the title trending on Google also.

Fleur Beale’s powerful story of life inside a religious cult, I am not Esther, has become a New Zealand classic since it was published 16 years ago. Winning the Gaelyn Gordon Award for a Much-Loved Book, it has remained hugely popular and has been in print ever since, as well as being published in the US and Germany.

Beale’s fans have always wanted to hear more about life inside the strict cult and the sequel, I am Rebecca, was published today, 1st August – please find the press release attached with more details.

If you would like to see a review copy or are interested in an interview with Fleur Beale, please do not hesitate to contact me.
