What does winning mean to you? Kevin Brooks: It’s without doubt the best thing that’s ever happened to me as a writer – a huge honour and a privilege, a dream come true, and something I’ve been hoping to achieve for a very long time. Jon Klassen: Growing up in Canada, I was familiar with a lot of the books that make up the amazing tradition the UK has of children's literature. LIVING WITH IT by Lizzie Enfield Isobel has just found out the truth: that her friend Ben's baby is deaf as a result of coming into contact with Isobel’s daughter who had contracted measles after a decision Isobel made years earlier, at the height of the MMR controversy, not to vaccinate her children. What seemed like a rational and considered choice at the time now looks less so. But Isobel never meant this to happen and she would do anything to turn back the clock. The topic of MMR that is the backdrop to this novel is a really fascinating and novel one. This is a book that really tests readers’ sympathies and makes you consider what you would do in both sets of shoes. Lizzie Enfield has produced a superb examination of one of the most contentious of recent issues, exploring both sides of a morally ambiguous coin and the wider impact of the decisions we make. MORE >
