Legend Press launches 'Think Independent' campaign

Legend Press has launched a campaign highlighting its support for independent booksellers called “Think Independent”.
The independent publisher has sent copies of its new book Teach Her by BBC and Channel 4 comedy writer Mark Kotting to 100 independent booksellers across the country to either sell, review or read as a way of better engaging with indies.
This is the first book in the #thinkindependent campaign, but others will follow in the summer.

Legend Press said: “The aim of the giveaway is to engage with independent bookshops throughout the UK, offering them promotional support a well as being a starting point to working in partnership.”

Elaine Henry, owner of Word Power Books in Edinburgh, praised the campaign and said that any initiative which connects independent bookshops and independent publishers was a good thing.
“We are both on the same side,” she said, adding: “It is often hard for independent publishers to connect with bookshops if they don’t have the same sales or rep force as larger publishing houses, and we are trying to support and stock more titles from indie publishers. There are some great titles being published by independent presses.” However, Henry said there was no replacement for “face to face” contact with publishers when it came to developing good connections with publishers.

Tom Chalmers, managing director of Legend Press, said: “As an independent and innovative publisher we are keen to work closely with independent bookshops. The two should be a natural fit, but they often find themselves fighting the same battles separately. The aim of Think Independent is to ensure both publishers and bookshops remain independent but have greater strength through partnership.”

Teach Her is published on 1st May, priced £7.99, in paperback.
