iBooks Bestsellers: Power of The Hunger Games
The final book in Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games trilogy, Mockingjay, took the #1 spot on Apple's iBooks bestseller list for the week ended November 25. Originally published in 2010, Mockingjay hit the chart as the film adaptation of the second book in the series, Catching Fire (#4 on the iBooks list), rules the box office. The Massachusetts Library System and Baker & Taylor have partnered on a pilot project designed to expand access to e-books throughout the state's libraries. In the six-month e-book project, Baker & Taylor will assist MLS in establishing a shared, statewide collection of e-books, in which an initial group of 51 participating libraries will access more than 3,000 general interest titles through Baker & Taylor's Axis 360 digital media platform. more » »
Psalm Nets $14M
at Auction : A 1640 book of psalms translated from Hebrew sold
for a record breaking $14.16 million at auction on Tuesday. Known as the Bay
Psalm Book, it is the first book published in English in what is now the U.S.
There are only 10 other known copies. The buyer was David M. Rubenstein,
co-founder of the private equity firm the Carlyle Group, who says he plans to loan
the book out to museums.

— F. Scott Fitzgerald was convalescing in a hotel in Asheville, N.C., when he
offered his nurse a list of 22 books he thought were essential reading. The
list is written in the nurse’s hand.

Irish Book
Awards Honor Doyle, O'Toole: Authors Roddy Doyle and Fintan
O'Toole were among the winners at last night's Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book
Awards 2013. The eighth annual awards also honored novelist John Banville with
the Bob Hughes Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented by actress
Sinéad Cusack.
