The House of Riordan: An Update
New house, new city, new book: Rick Riordan's 2013 trifecta is worthy of any hero of Olympus. This week the bestselling author, who has more than 35 million books in print across his three middle-grade series, gets ready for his eight-city tour for the October 8 release of his latest, The House of Hades. Children's Bookshelf caught up with the author, who disclosed the names of a few Percy Jackson characters making cameos in the new book, discussed forthcoming projects, and explained why he enjoys teasing his readers.

Brandon Sanderson 'Steelheart' Promotion
Takes Flight

At every stop on Brandon Sanderson's 15-city, 26-day tour to promote the release of Steelheart, book one in his Reckoners YA fantasy trilogy, the author is visiting an airport bookstore to sign books and slip into some copies a lenticular promotional postcard. He then will tweet clues hinting at where the cards can be found. The lenticulars include a URL and a code that unlocks an area of Sanderson's Web site where fans will find a chapter of Words of Radiance, book two of the Stormlight Archive, which pubs next March.

A New Force for Sales: Star Wars Reads Day
The second Star Wars Reads Day, to be held on Saturday, October 5, will feature more than 2,000 events worldwide – up 67% from last year. The effort has expanded internationally, with events in Canada, Austria, Great Britain, Australia, Colombia, and Germany, as well as across the United States. more
