Matariki – Two events
coming up

It’s
Matariki, the Maori New Year, and the Michael King Writers’ Centre is
involved with two events to celebrate.
The
first is a Powhiri for
Judith Bryers Holloway, who holds the Maori Writer’s
Residency at the centre from May to early July this year. She is working on a
collection of short stories for children.
The Powhiri is being organised by the Devonport Library
Associates, but all are welcome to attend.
When: Thursday June 20, 2013, from 7pm

The second
event is a special screening of the powerful film Tatarakihi: Children of Parihaka,
followed by korero/panel discussion including the film’s director Paora Te
Oti Takarangi Joseph, Te Awhina Arahanga, John Retimana and Anton Blank.
When: Monday June 24, 2013, 7.30 pm
Where: Victoria Theatre, Devonport Cost: Free
The film, presented by the Michael King Writers’ Centre with
the support of the Auckland Council Creative Communities Scheme, has sold out
at film festival screenings around New Zealand.
The film is on for one
night only as part of the Auckland Matariki Festival.
