His Own Steam - The Work of Barry Brickell - a fine book

Every now and again a book comes along that absolutely takes my breath away . His Own Steam is such a book. It is a stunning piece of work, a truly fine piece of publishing. From the gorgeous dust jacket with its generous French folds, to the interior design, the numerous wonderful photographs,(both new and historic), the thoughtful, personal Foreword by art critic Hamish Keith, to the illuminating essays and scholarship from sociologist/academic David Craig and curator/poet/artist Gregory O'Brien, it all comes together as an appropriate tribute to the man  who is one of New Zealand's truly great contemporary ceramic artists.

It is a book to hold and admire, a book to browse and read, a book to treasure, a book I feel proud and privileged to own.
I shall post more about the book later in the week.

Publication date 3 May 2013.
