The formal Opening Ceremony is on October 9 at 5pm, a select invitation-only event with a full lineup of German dignitaries including Dr Guido Westerwelle, Germany’s Foreign Minister. Guest of Honour New Zealand will be represented by Deputy Prime Minister Bill English and eminent writers Bill Manhire and Joy Cowley.
Later the same evening, from 6.30–9.00, the Official Opening of the New Zealand Pavilion will feature Pasifika poets Courtney Meredith and Ole Maiava, and there will also be performances by Kiwi singers Aivale Cole and Sarah Castle, kapa haka group Te Matarae I Orehu, and the Tatau Pacific Dance Group.
That’s merely the beginning of a full programme of author readings and interviews, publisher events and panel sessions interspersed with song, dance and other Kiwi cultural performances over the five days of the Fair.

CLNZ Educational Publishing Awards 2012
Two new categories expand CLNZ’s Educational Publishing Awards
this year. They are Best Book or Series in Te Reo Māori and Best Educational
Resource or Programme for Export.Despite the new award categories, entries remain level with those in 2011. Judging the 2012 awards are Dr Rebecca Jesson, Research Fellow, School of Curriculum and Pedagogy, Education Faculty, University of Auckland; Angela Fitchett, Head of English at Nelson College; and Hone Apanui, a respected educator and now a writer, translator and editor in both English and Maori.
The awards will be presented on Thursday November 15 at the Gus Fisher Gallery in Auckland.
