The book tokens were burning a hole in The Bookman's pocket ! Time to redeem them.
During the year I have accumulated a pile of book tokens and they have been burning a hole in my pocket. This weekend we are up at our bach north of Auckland so Saturday morning after shopping at the market I headed in to the very special, always well-stocked Village Bookshop at Matakana, (one of the best rural indie bookshops in the land by the way), and spent a very happy hour exchanging book tokens for books.
Here is what I bought:
Sweet Tooth by Ian McEwan - Jonathan Cape the latest novel from the UK's "unrivalled literary giant".
Gary Mehigan - Lantern Cookery Classics - Penguin - the award winning Melbourne-based restaurateur who has become a household name as a result of being a judge on Masterchef Australia
The Little Paris Kitchen - Rachel Khoo - Penguin - 120 receipes which enable you to add a French culinary touch to your everyday home cooking no matter where in the world you are or how big or ssmall your kitchen is.
The Food Clock - a year of cooking seasonally - "Fast Ed" Halmagyi - Harper Collins - one of Australia's best-loved TV chefs with his unique taste on family-friendly, time-saving meals.
Great Buildings - the world's architectural masterpieces explored and explained - Dorling Kindersley - a guided tour of more than 50 of the world's greatest buildings from ancient pyramids to 21st century skyscrapers which makes for a fascinating chronological overview of the history of architecture.
Now it is Sunday and I am curled up in my favourite reading chair in the wintry sun enjoying my new treasures. I hope your weekend is going well too.

You'll need to walk a lot of those great buildings after consuming the cookery books. Will be interested in your thoughts on the McEwan when you've read it.
