Former bookseller recalls a visit from Margaret Mahy

Cecilie McIntyre, former co-founder of Highland Park Bookshop in Auckland's eastern suburbs advises:

I remembered that in the May holidays in 1985 Margaret came to Highland Park, we had a wonderful fun reading session which was so popular we spilled right out of the shop into the courtyard.
I've fished out a couple of photos. She was wearing her famous coloured wig!

Many may remember our bookshop, or if you didn't know us then you will have read many of her books to your children. We had some great author visits, but hers was probably the most fun.
A few friends are overseas.... thought they might miss this sad news otherwise.
Margaret Mahy was certainly 'one of a kind'.

Margaret had her wig...I was just in a 'fuzzy hair stage'!

Great anticipation.
