Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan have revealed the eight titles they will be including in their Spring Book Club, turning each of the authors into overnight sensations with millions of pounds worth of sales.

The Daily Express columnists have singled out four debut novels and four more from established writers, including Booker-shortlisted Room by Emma Donoghue, which was inspired by the Josef Fritzl rape and imprisonment case.

The first selection from last year’s club, Sister by Rosamund Lupton, became the fastest-selling title by a debut author in WH Smith’s 200-year history.

“We’re delighted to announce the new titles,” said Richard yesterday. “Judy and I have spent a long time carefully choosing these titles and we think that there really is something for everyone here. It’s a very, very strong selection of terrific reads.”

Each fortnight the TV duo will highlight one book in WH Smith stores and online, posting their reviews on whsmith.co.uk/richardandjudy, which will also feature live interviews with the author. Rachel Russell, of WH Smith, said: “Richard and Judy have yet again chosen eight standout titles from a very high quality list.”

The couple have also revealed they will begin a children’s book club to be launched at the beginning of next month.
