Google to Unveil Digital Newsstand

Google is taking on Apple in its efforts to save—and make money—on journalism. The company planning to open up a digital newsstand to distribute newspapers and magazines. The store would sell apps for Android devices. The timing is unclear, and it’s possible that it could never see the light of day. Still, Google has had talks with Time Warner, Conde Nast, and Hearst, and the company has promised to take a smaller slice of sales than the 30 percent collected by Apple. It has also discussed providing them with personal data from users, in order to help them with marketing.
