Maxine Alterio, author/educator honoured

Maxine Alterio, educator, novelist and short story writer, was a recipient of a 2010 Tertiary Teaching Excellence Award at a ceremony held Aught 4th in the Banquet Hall at Parliament Buildings.  Maxine’s thirty-year teaching career, primarily in New Zealand, but also interspersed with periods in the United Kingdom, has enabled her to work alongside learners studying at certificate through to postgraduate level. She has a particular interest in learning through reflective storytelling.

Maxine is co-author of Learning through Storytelling in Higher Education: Using reflection and experience to improve learning, voted in 2007 by Questia Librarians as one of the 16 most influential books in higher education. 
Her first novel, Ribbons of Grace, was published by Penguin Books (NZ) in 2007.  
Currently undertaking a PhD in Creative Writing at the IIML, Victoria University of Wellington, Maxine is working on her second novel and writing a thesis based on the memoirs of nurses who served in the Great War.
