GEOFF WALKER LEAVING PENGUIN BOOKS?

Rumours are swirling around the NZ book trade today that Geoff Walker, Penguin NZ's long serving publishing director, is planning to step down. Enquiries to Penguin Books NZ  drew the comment that a statement would be made later today. This suggests the rumours have substance.

Walker, originally appointed to his Penguin job 25+ years ago by Bookman Beattie who was MD at Penguin at the time, is one of NZ's most experienced and respected publishers with huge author and industry connections and his departure would be a significant loss to both the company and his large stable of authors.
