Margaret Brooker’s It’s My Turn to Cook won a golden ladle for Best Children’s Cookbook at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu World Food Media Awards, announced earlier this week in Adelaide Australia.

More than 700 entries were received for the competition, which was judged by an international panel of 60 jurors. Other winners came from as far afield as USA, France, Spain, Cambodia, Slovenia and the United Kingdom.

Margaret produced It’s My Turn to Cook, a great collection of 40 tasty recipes and plenty of useful cooking skill tips for young Kiwi cooks, in collaboration with her two daughters Alexandra and Charlotte Stephen. It was published by New Holland in late 2007, making it eligible for the latest round of bi-annual awards.
It was the Wellington-based food writer’s sixth book, her second with New Holland.

Ian Parmenter, Le Cordon Bleu World Food Media Awards Jury Chairman, said on the night “the standard of entries in this year’s competition was extraordinarily high and the international judges were faced with an enormous task. However, they were consistent in their agreement on the winners.”
