Musician, author of How to Listen to Pop Music, music critic for the Listener and producer of Radio New Zealand’s The Sampler, Nick Bollinger has chronicled the tumultuous growth of New Zealand bands and sounds for over 20 years.

Celebrate New Zealand Music Month by coming along to meet Nick and to participate in a musical discussion of his book 100 Essential New Zealand Albums, the essential guide to the musicians, bands, singers, songs, and above all, the albums that define New Zealand music, from the spirited primitivism of Johnny Devlin’s 1959 Johnny, through the classy '80s pop of Sharon O’Neill to modern milestones such as the Phoenix Foundation’s Happy Ending and Smashproof’s The Weekend.
From the groups who boldly crossed the Tasman to record in Sydney in the '30s, to the 21st century explosion of rock, pop and hip-hop, 100 Essential New Zealand Albums is an electrifying journey into the soul of Kiwi music and the people who make it.

Bookseller for the evening will be Dymocks Ponsonby.
