Phaidon Press has been named as the Best Cookbook Publisher in the World at The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Phaidon won at the awards held on 11th February at Le Cent Quatre, Paris.

Richard Schlagman, publisher at Phaidon Press, said: "We are delighted to have received this prestigious award. Since we published our first title in this sector in 2005, we have had great success in the market, and it is particularly pleasing to also be recognised by the profession."

The jury cited: "In a few short years, starting with The Silver Spoon, Phaidon has become the publisher all cookbook authors dream about." Phaidon's "creative design", "investment in quality production" and "inventive concepts" were named as reasons for the publisher winning.

Cookbooks published between 15th November 2008 and 15th November 2009 qualified to enter the competition, and Phaidon submitted the five cookbooks it published during this time: Vefa’s Kitchen, I Know How to Cook, The Silver Spoon: Pasta, The Silver Spoon for Children and Coco: 10 World-Leading Masters choose 100 Contemporary Chefs
