In fact this book was originally published as Masterglass back in 1983. She has now completely revised that early title bringing it right up to date.
Robinson is something of a phenomenon in the wine world having been the first person outside the wine trade to pass the extremely difficult Master of Wine exams. She has a daily column on her website, http://www.jancisrobinson.com/, a weekly column for the Financial Times, is editor of the Oxford Companion to Wine, author of many books, presents on television, has an enormous international reputation, and was awarded the OBE in 2003 by Her Majesty the Queen, on whose cellar she now advises.
This is a detailed book, wonderfully free of jargon and snobby language, nicely illustrated, special photographs by Jan Baldwin, and includes an especially interesting piece where she compares NZ Sauvignon Blanc with French Sancerre/Pouilly Fume, and I love the chapter heading, The fabulously fussy Pinot Noir.
I agree with your endorsement of the latest book from Jancis Robinson. She is such an elegant and erudite writer.
