Indulge yourself with a literary feast

Believe it or not, even with the advent of television cooking shows and “Hells Kitchen” style programmes, people always spend money on books pertaining to the art of cooking.

From the likes of Delia Smith’s acclaimed back catalogue to Rick Stein’s odysseys on the roads of Italy and the coasts of Great Britain, there is a large readership when it comes to cookbooks – a readership that this year’s NZ Book Month nurtures with a fine selection of kiwi food writers.

The Sunday Star Times Literature Feast is a perfect accompaniment for the large number of Kiwi cookbooks forecasted during 2008. One of these publications is Home Made, stories and recipes from Kiwi Stove-tops; a collection of recipes from the New Zealand public compiled through Kim Knights popular weekly column, which is a highlight for this event.

A three course meal and complimentary beverage will be served along with perfectly seasoned helpings of conversation, recipes and literary tales from New Zealand culinary icons Allyson Gofton, Lauraine Jacobs, Shonagh Koea, Peta Mathias, Kim Knight and wine expert Michael Cooper.

Taking place in the opulent surrounds of the Langham Hotel Ballroom, culinary enthusiasts can expect a delicious array of appetisers, fine mains and beautiful desserts at an event which will satisfy both the mind and palate.

The “Literary Feast” is just one of the programmes on offer at this year’s NZ Book Month – which embraces kiwi writers of sports, screen, novels, non fiction, poetry and short stories and gives kids a chance to have their say on 25 top kiwi taste sensation books from New Zealand authors.
