ABA - Conference on Book Trade History: Music and the Book Trade from the Sixteenth to the Nineteenth Century
Music printing and publishing has always been a highly specialised area and general booksellers seldom included printed music in their stock. Music teachers and those who made or sold musical instruments often included printed and sheet music among their wares. For this reason musicologists have tended to neglect the organised trade in printed music, and historians of the book have almost entirely ignored this interesting aspect of the manuscript and print trade.
Conference Dates: Saturday 1 December and Sunday 2 December 2007.
Speakers include:
Donald Burrows is Professor of Music at the Open University, Iain Fenlon is Professor of Historical Musicology, and Fellow of King’s College, Cambridge. Anna Jones is Lee Librarian at Wolfson College, Cambridge. Richard Luckett is Pepysian Librarian and a Fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge. Rupert Ridgewell is a Curator, British Library Music Collections. Stephen Roe is Head of Printed Books and Manuscripts at Sotheby’s.
