PETER PAN, NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR, BRIDGET JONES - WHICH BOOKS BEST CAPTURE THEIR ERA ?

You must read this piece by Robert McCrum, Literary Editor of The Observer, where the article first apppeared.

To his interesting nominees for the 1970's I would have added Richard Bach's novella, Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I was a bookseller in those days and well remember the impact it made on so many people.

I knew Robert in the days when he was the "boy wonder" publisher at Faber & Faber and I must say his Observer stories are always well worth a read. This one is most interesting and should generate a lot of discussion at book clubs around the world. His completet list also makes an excellent reading list. Check it out.
