Ondaatje moves from Bloomsbury to Cape

06.10.10 - The Bookseller

In a deal worth six figures, Booker Prize-winning author Michael Ondaatje has moved from Bloomsbury to Jonathan Cape.

Publishing director Dan Franklin and deputy publisher Robin Robertson bought UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) to The Cat's Table from Ellen Levine and Claire Roberts at Trident Media. Cape will publish in September 2011.

Robertson said: "I am delighted to be reunited with Michael after working with him years ago at Secker & Warburg. The Cat's Table is fabulous, full of his glorious trademark setpieces, breathtaking imagery and vivid characterisation. It is, without doubt, Ondaatje's finest novel."
