A HOME COMPANION LAUNCHED IN STYLE

JOLLY BOOK LAUNCH ON PONSONBY ROAD

Last evening some 80 friends, fans and family gathered at cool Ponsonby Road bar, The Crib, to celebrate the launch of Wendyl Nissen's new book,  A HOME COMPANION.

And what a jolly event it was. In addition to her considerable skills as a writer Nissen proved herself to be an outstanding speaker and entertaining comedienne. She had the audience in stitches as she presented a potted autobiography of her recent life during the course of which she managed to mention almost everyone in the room by name. Her comment that her book was only available from bookshops, that she had deliberately elected not to make it available online so as to support independent bookshops drew a loud round of applause. It was a virtuoso performance.
Carole Beu from Ponsonby's Womens Bookshop was selling the book at the event and seemed busy afterwards as punters lined up to buy and then have their copy signed by the woman of the hour.
Fun book, fun event.

Some pics follow showing -  Carole Beu enjoying a glass of Chardonnay between customers, Radioman Bill Francis getting his copy signed, Dorothy Vinicombe with NZWW editor Sido Kitchen, Wendyl Nissen with Allen & Unwin's NZ publicity supremo Abba Renshaw(about whom the author made some very nice comments).
