Gourmand award for Source New Zealand, it's all about our food, our people, our land

Gerhard and Henri have just returned to New Zealand having won the Worlds Best Photographer/Publisher category at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards with their book Source New Zealand, it’s all about our food, our people, our land. We were there to represent New Zealand in 3 categories after winning the Best in New Zealand for Best Photography, Best Culinary Travel and Best Photographer/Publisher.

"We have achieved what we set out to do, promote what New Zealand has to offer – the quality, variety and commitment of all those involved and to be able to tell your stories. “We are extremely pleased to see New Zealand promoted in this international arena” says Gerhard. “We are passionate about New Zealand, our natural scenery and lifestyle, the quality of the products produced and the enthusiasm of the people involved”. Source is about promoting New Zealand and New Zealand produce and producers, both here and overseas.

Gerhard spent 15 months travelling around New Zealand, meeting the 30 producers and recording their stories. The easy-to-read and engaging articles with accompanying photography are divided into the 6 sections representing NZ's farmers, fishermen, indigenous food and preparation. The Tangata Whenua section touches on the Maori contribution to the New Zealand food landscape. Source finishes with a selection of recipes using New Zealand produce.
The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards are held annually with books from over 200 countries participating. Compared to the 'Oscars', they honour the best food and wine books as well as food television.

This is Gerhard and Henri's third book and second win at these awards, in 2014 A Cut Above, cooking with AngusPure won the ‘World's Best Meat Cookbook Award’, in 2012 their very first publication Volcanic Kitchens, come and join us won ‘Best Photography Cookbook for New Zealand Award’ and was a finalist at the Gourmand World Awards.
