BEHIND THE TAPE
Life on the police frontline: Gripping, real-life stories from New
Zealand's top
police crisis negotiator
Lance Burdett
“Hi, I’m Lance. I’m from the Auckland police. I’m
just letting you know your house is
surrounded by armed police. I also want
you to know that we’re not coming in so you are
safe. Let’s have a chat…”
Lance Burdett was New Zealand's top police crisis
negotiator and worked in a variety of high-level roles over his 22 year
career in the police. Behind the Tape is Lance’s revealing, gritty,
honest memoir of what it’s really like being a police officer in New Zealand.
Lance is also open about the intense mental
stress he suffered due to the traumatic events
he was witnessing day-to-day,
and believes that more could be done to support the
resilience of Police
staff to protect them from stress-related illness. Behind the Tape gives
you a true insight into what
it's really like to be a cop: the good, the bad, the fear, the
excitement, the
stress, the everyday drama, the skills you develop, the lives saved, and the
lives lost.
