It's the latest trend in publishing: the edgy domestic thriller featuring twisted characters and a Girl who has Gone in one way or another. Just as E L James's Fifty Shades of Grey spawned a thousand knock-offs, from Fifty Shades of Yellow to Fifty Sheds of Grey, so Flynn's bestseller — first the book, then the film — has caused a flurry of commissioning, re-titling and packaging from publishers ever desperate to cash in.
