WORKING THE GAP
A series of free public events exploring art writing now
Day Symposium
WHEN: Saturday 9 August 2014, 11am-5pm
WHERE: Adam Art Gallery and Allan MacDiarmid Building (AM101), Kelburn Campus, Victoria University of Wellington
This day symposium will explore the rich and varied ways in which writing and art are intersecting at this present time. Working the Gap aims to reflect on the state of art writing now, teasing out the responsibilities of the writer in the domain of art and testing new possibilities as disciplinary boundaries between art and writing, fiction and criticism, research and practice blur. It brings together prominent art writers, artists, poets, designers and more, including: Jon Bywater, Hamish Clayton, Tim Corballis, Wystan Curnow, Megan Dunn, Gregory Kan, Kerry Ann Lee, Tessa Laird, Louise Menzies, Emily Perkins, Anna Sanderson, Allan Smith, and Shannon Te Ao.

Using Kim Pieters’ exhibition, what is a life? as cue and backdrop, poet and PhD candidate Therese Lloyd will be running two lunchtime poetry workshops. This is an opportunity for new and established writers to explore and extend their writing practice. Places in the poetry workshops are limited to the first 20 applicants.
