Boyd, Morpurgo and Kureishi contribute to Just When Stories

15.03.10 | Catherine Neilan in The Bookseller

Authors such as William Boyd, Michael Morpurgo and Hanif Kureishi (pic right-Jane Brown), are contributing a short story based on an animal of their choice for a new title inspired by Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories.

Entitled Just When Stories, the book is being published by Beautiful Books this August, in support of the campaign by WildAid and the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation against the illegal wildlife trade. The stories are focused around the questions "when will the irrational and cruel destruction of wildlife stop?", and "when we will take action to make it stop?".

All profits from the sales of the title will be donated in full to the two charities. The project has been created and managed by endangered species campaigner Tamara Gray.

The winning story from the National Short Story Campaign for 12-17 year olds, which launched with the Mail on Sunday yesterday (Sunday 14th March) will be included within the collection. The audio book is read by David Tennant, Martin Jarvis, Hugh Bonnerville, Romola Garai and Eddie Redmayne.

The stories have been donated on a two-year worldwide exclusive basis, and Beautiful Books will be selling territorial rights at the London Book Fair in April.

Just When Stories will be published on 19th August, as a hardback priced £14.99. An e-book edition will be available at £9.99, while the audio version costs £14.99 in CD format and £9.99 as a download.
