Phaidon Acquires Influential French Film Mag

"Cahiers du Cinéma" was founded by André Bazin in 1951.

NEW YORK—Art-book publisher Phaidon Press has announced its acquisition of the monthly cinema magazine Cahiers du Cinéma from the French newspaper Le Monde.Cahiers du Cinéma was founded in 1951 by André Bazin and has been known as a force in the film world for the more than five decades since.
It is credited with spawning the concept of the Auteur theory as well as the Nouvelle Vague (New Wave). Early writers included Jean-Luc Goddard, François Truffaut, and Claude Chabrol.
The magazine also operates a book publishing division.
Le Monde has owned Cahiers du Cinéma since 1998 and announced its decision to sell the publication as part of a corporate reorganization last April. Phaidon beat out some 30 other bidders.
