The Centre for New Zealand Studies,

is pleased to confirm the start of Maori language classes at the Centre from Tuesday 16 September.
tena koutou katoa i runga i te reo karanga.
greetings to one and all!
Te Reo Ranana and the Centre for New Zealand Studies are pleased to announce
the commencement of Te Reo Maori Language courses on 16 September.
Both beginners and Advanced courses will run for 10 weeks before breaking
and re-commencing.
The aim of these courses is to provide students with vocabulary/sentence
structure analysis and practical situations to practice speaking and writing
Te Reo Maori. We believe in providing a nurturing environment to keep Te Reo
Maori alive and well far away from home.
Te Reo Ranana is a program that integrates different learning styles so that
everyone is catered for. The courses are based on conversational Maori
although aspects of Te Reo o Kawa - or higher level Te Reo are explored
through Karakia and Waiata.
There are 2 levels:
Level 1, which will run on Tuesdays, 6.30-8.30, is a beginners course and
focuses on pronunciation, fluidity, vocabulary and grammar building whilst
also learning karakia (prayer) and practical knowledge of basic Maori
Tikanga (protocols) and other cultural nuances.
Level 2, which will run on Thursdays, 6.30-8.30, is an advanced level
program, focusing more on speaking and critical writing. Level 2 is
suitable for those who have some experience in Te Reo Maori - being able to
speak for 2 minutes in Te Reo Maori would be a good indicator that you are
suited to the advanced level.
Each session will be £10 per person. A concession card can be purchased at
£90 giving you one session for free.
The sessions will be taken by Jordan Young (BA, Te Reo, Mao Studies). A
Victoria University graduate and former tutor - Lecturer at Te Kawa a Maui
(Maori Studies department). Jordan has taught Te Reo for Te Wananga o
Aotearoa, Ataarangi, Cultureflow, UCOL and Victoria University.
Registration of interest for these courses is essential to ensure your
place. Please contact Jordan Young <jordanwyoung@hotmail.com> or Ian Conrich
<ian@ianconrich.co.uk> for details.
Looking forward to meeting/learning with you all.
Te Reo Ranana.

ReplyDeleteka nui te mihi ki a koe mo tenei panui!
Hi and greetings Graham. Thanks for posting this good news. I lived in London for six years in the 1990s, tried to teach myself some reo. I
had to come home to do that, but this is still good news.
Na reira, e te tohunga ipurangi, noho ora mai!
