ANNIE HAS BEEN READING:

Can We Help It If We’re Fabulous?
Two Lipsticks and a Lover
Lopsided
Under a Starless Sky

Here are her comments on them:

Can We help It If We’re Fabulous
Peta Mathias – Penguin - $35

The wonderful Peta Mathias moves into new territory here - Fashion, health, relationships, beauty, (I picked up some great home facial tips), happiness, men (this chapter is titled, “Men, so many men, so few bullets’), and food (naturally).
The chapter on men, and others, kept me really entertained.
Peta has shown in her previous eight books that she is a talented food and travel writer but she breaks new ground here and it is terrific. Her style is relaxed, informative, funny, wry and engaging. Much like the woman herself.
The book is designed and illustrated by Anna Egan-Reid and has a real international feel to it.

Two Lipsticks and a Lover
Helena Frith Powell – Arrow - $28

My lovely hairdresser recommended this book to me, a client had raved about it to him. And it is indeed a gem, definitely a word of mouth book which you delight in passing on to any girlfriends interested in fashion, travel and the style secrets of French women.
Great fun, I loved it.

LOPSIDED – An Upliftingly Honest Memoir
Meredith Norton – Hachette - $38.99

Although this is a serious book on a serious subject the author makes you laugh out loud.
Meredith Norton deals with her severe breast cancer in a very forthright and breathtakingly frank way. The book is irreverent, open, heartfelt, poignant and moving, and also very funny.

Under a Starless Sky
Banafsheh Serov – Hachette - $39.99

Banafsheh was eight when revolution broke out in her country, Iran. Life began to spin out of control and finally her family decided to abandon their much loved homeland.
This first hand account reads well; the frustration, the despair and the constant fear cuts through you as a reader and means that you will never read another account of a refugee trying to get to a safe place without feelings of empathy.
Well worth reading, (and it has a happy ending!)
