WEATHER WATCH NEW ZEALAND
Sandra Carrod Reed $20

I guess this is aimed at kids aged 10 plus but for my money it’s a book that all of us can usefully use and benefit from.

We New Zealanders know that living on a couple of long skinny islands in the middle of the world’s largest ocean is a sure recipe for unpredictable weather patterns, rainfall evenly spread through much of the year and few really calm days. We also know by watching the weather forecasts on TV each evening how frequently the forecasters get it wrong.

So to help us understand the ever-changing, unpredictable nature of our weather Sandra Carrod has supplied the perfect primer. Using impressive graphics, photographs, diagrams and illustrations supplemented by clear, concise and accessible language she explains what causes wind, rain, snow, frosts, fog and in fact every aspect of our weather.

Even Bookman Beattie who doesn’t have a scientific bone in his body, (this is a great understatement as I am even confused by the instructions on mixing garden sprays and the like), was able to understand and enjoy this title.
Apologies to the publisher & author for the wrong colours in the cover image. It should be a rich blue instead of that red!
